Rose Forshall is an illustrator, printmaker and lecturer teaching on the BA (Hons) illustration and MA online illustration course. Since Rose started teaching in 2013, there has been a continually evolving symbiotic relationship between her practice as illustrator and her practice as teacher. Her teaching informs her practice and her practice inspires her teaching.
‘Thinking through drawing’ and ‘learning through making’ are central to her work and at the core of the modules she teaches on. Themes explored in her practice are the environment, identity and place, rural life, human connection to the sea, people who live by the sea, the relationship of words and pictures in picturebooks, contemporary themes in children’s picturebooks.
Rose is currently working on series of picturebooks in which the words are written in response to the illustrations. The books are about a little girl’s adventures on a remote island. The first book is about her search for a humpback whale.
