Caroline is currently academic lead for Quality Assurance and Enhancement and senior lecturer in Historical and Cultural Studies on BA(Hons) Illustration. She trained as a design historian at the University of Brighton and Royal College of Art/Victoria & Albert Museum and completed a Doctorate in Education at the University of Sheffield with a focus on visual research methodologies.

She joined Falmouth University in 2000 as a senior lecturer in Historical and Cultural Studies on undergraduate and postgraduates courses including (amongst others): MA Art & Design: Histories & Theories, MA Advertising, BA(Hons) Graphic Design, BA(Hons Illustration, BA(Hons) 3D Design and BA(Hons) Spatial Design before moving on to work in course leadership and curriculum management. She was head of Contemporary Crafts and, prior to that, programme leader, Three-Dimensional Design.  Before joining Falmouth, she was a lecturer in the History of Art and Design at Newcastle College, Northumbria University and Sunderland University (1992-2000).

She has worked as a journalist for the Architect’s Journal, Time Out, a-n, Design Week and Crafts, a researcher for the Victoria & Albert Museum and Design Museum and research assistant at the Sir John Cass and Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths as well as visiting lecturer in universities across the UK including (amongst others): University of the Arts London (Central St Martins, Camberwell College of Arts), Winchester School of Art and University of the Creative Arts (Medway, Maidstone).
