LYDIA MCDONNELLThe Far West of Cornwall is home to two mysterious ancient sites. The Merry Maidens stone circle and the Pipers of Boleigh standing stones lie not far from one another. Legend says that when the Maidens were caught dancing sinfully to the music of the Pipers on Sabbath, they were turned to stone. The Pipers, seeing what had happened, fled, but were soon also turned.
