Artist Statement
I am a London based artist and designer. My practice is based on a critique of late capitalism and its consequences within the context of socio-political cultural-psychological issues. Using digital collage, digital abstract art, sculptures and ceramics, I explore key themes of consumerism, minimalism, capitalism and corporate power. In a world where mass production is the norm, it’s time to ask ourselves: what do we truly value in a culture that promotes endless consumption?
By bringing awareness about overwhelmingness of consumption, I invite viewers to reflect on their own consumption habits and the toll they take on our environment, quality of life, well-being, and encourage a return to mindfulness, connect with the nature and with our true-self.
It is a call to re-imagine a better, sustainable world in which to live. Through my art, I foster a dialogue about what it means to live in harmony with our surroundings and challenging capitalist structures by addressing social issues such as exploitation, inequality, values, materialism, elitism, excess and waste.
Contextual Statement
Less Is More is a project that critically examines the unsustainable cycle of over-consumption. Through digital collages, drawings and vase painting, the project explores the psychological effects of over-consumption on self-perception and identity formation. Research question in this project is; How can digital collage and vase explore the psychological effects of overconsumption on self-perception and identity formation? The project began as a response to the growing overconsumption in an increasingly globalised world and the significant increase in long-distance online shopping. We are living in a new era for consumers. An era of digital overconsumption and excess advertising. Adverts are everywhere we look. With such easy access, it is time to ask ourselves what we truly value in a culture that promotes endless consumption.
