Week 4 – research started for IP13 project
Have started a bit of research for a possible project on postcodes. The system we use in the UK for postcodes is unique – I came across an article (which I have to find again!) which explained how the system was originally created. I’ve been thinking about documenting the villages in my area for a while and the postcode reference could be a good way to start. My area is IP13 so I’ve just started exploring some of the villages in this postcode I’m not familiar with. For now I am visiting them during ‘golden hour’. I’d like to shoot this on 6×6 film but for now I’m trying to find a thread for what makes these places unique, for example how is one village different to another within the same postcode.

Week 3 – Snowscapes
Taking the flash out in the snow to see if I could get a better result than with the rain.

It was only later when I was looking at the images I was reminded of a photograph from one of the first photo books I was given – from Martin Parr – ‘Bad Weather’.

Week 2 – Faux pas
Inspired by last week’s ‘methods and meaning’ topic to use some strategies and methods to expand the creative possibilities of my work, I grabbed my flash (which I haven’t touched for a long time) to see how using that might change my environment. Embracing the ‘faux pas’ I tried some deliberate ‘mistakes’ such as an out of focus foreground and blasts of flash in the images below.

Week 2 – Rainscapes
Following on from the snowdrops, the harsh cold wind and showers gave me idea to embrace the harshness of the flash – blasting the birches and heath with light and picking up the rain drops.
